Presented by Kabri Lehrman Schmid, Project Superintendent for Hensel Phelps, and co-chair of Washington’s Construction Industry Suicide Prevention Workgroup, and Mike Shute, Regional Safety Specialist for Lakeside Industries.
According to the CDC, construction consistently has one of the highest suicide rates across all industries. The suicide rate in construction is about 4x greater than the national average and 5x greater than that of all other construction fatalities combined. Those working in the construction industry have unique risk factors and COVID-19 presents new anxieties that may compound these factors. Also, many veterans find employment in the construction industry. This group is also at heightened risk for suicide due to trauma exposure preceding work in construction and challenges with transition back into civilian life.
We are providing this webinar to support the construction industry by offering perspective on the unique challenges they face and teaching how to recognize signs of distress and what to do to provide support. This training is appropriate for management positions in both administrative and operational roles.
